Michael first encountered pilates at SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts as part of his theatre degree. He hated it, and never thought about it again until arthritis in his neck combined with a severe back injury left him so stiff and in so much pain he finally had to do something about it. In 2003, Michael began studying pilates with Dori Hill at the Terpsicore Movement Centre in Abbotsford. Movement returned, pain faded and a year later he began his Stott Pilates teacher training with Tessa Crofton at Westcoast Pilates. Michael has taught at Evolution Studios in Langley and Terpsicore Movement Centre. In addition to being a 'pilates geek', Michael is an artist and stage technician. Rose Marie is a long-time student of Iyengar yoga taking her first class in 1987. After many stops and starts she became a serious student in 1995 when a move to Ireland brought her in contact with an Iyengar teacher in the middle of the Irish countryside! Years went by and Rose Marie started her teacher training in Dublin and after moving back to the lower mainland continued her studies with Barbara Yates in Abbotsford, and is now a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. The practice and study of Iyengar yoga is ongoing and attending multiple workshops and classes annually is a requirement for maintaining certification. Through the Iyengar system Rose Marie has had the opportunity to study with many national and international teachers including a month at RIMYI (Iyengar Institute) in Pune , India , where she studied with Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. Since 2003 Rose Marie has taught yoga classes continuously in the Mission , Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam Recreation Centres. She also teaches for FitCity for Women, Maple Ridge. Rose Marie has worked as a substitute teacher for Great West Fitness Centre, Abbotsford; The Yoga Tree Centres, New Westminster; and The Yoga Space, Vancouver. |
